It’s time for your Farm of the Future Report. I’m Tim Hammerich.

As farmers look to diversify their revenue streams, some have considered vertically integrating and even selling directly to consumers. There’s another new revenue opportunity for those that would like to take advantage of it: RV hosting. Harvest Hosts is a platform that allows paying members to park their RVs at farms, wineries, and breweries. Any farm can become a host. Director of partnerships and host relations Molly Edgington says hosts earn money by selling products to travelers.

Edgington… “We ask that you have products to sell. So that can be a variety of things. Some of our firms who don't have products to sell on site and have set up a farm stand, or they've partnered with people in their community to sell their products on their behalf on the farm.”

Edgington says travelers are encouraged to spend at least $20 per overnight stay, but on average that number is closer to $50.

Edgington… “In 2020, about $25 million was brought back to our host locations. And this year 2021, we're looking at about $40 million back to our host locations. So it was really rewarding to hear through the pandemic that we were helping assist small businesses. It's a great partnership between our RVers and our host locations. And that revenue obviously is a big deal for a lot of these smaller businesses as well.”

No water, sewer or electrical hookups are required. If you have a flat area large enough to park and turnaround an RV, you can sign up at HarvestHosts.com.
