Growers of permanent crops will probably recognize the name Semios, as the precision agriculture company that specializes in pest management. In recent years, however, the company has expanded beyond pest management into a fully integrated precision agriculture platform for permanent crops. Founder and CEO Michael Gilbert says combining data sources into one technology makes a big difference for growers.

Gilbert… “A lot of these data sets and decision-making processes are connected. Like when you spray your pesticides impacts when or when you can't irrigate your crops. And so they're all connected. And so really having both the risk analysis, the decision-making tools combined is critical to essentially streamlining your operation.”

This benefit has been evident, no matter what unique challenges any given year presents. For example, this year with heat and water stress.

Gilbert… “We've been able to essentially alert our customers of, you know, their tree stress and the evapotranspiration rates on a per acre basis. We're now also monitoring the irrigation lines. So if they thought they would turn the water off eight hours, We can confirm it. And now we're looking to partner and through acquisition enable that last part, which is like closing the loop on controlling the irrigation pumps automatically.”

Semios recently expanded the platform further by acquiring farm software provider, AgWorld.
