Mikkelson farms in Roberts, Idaho is one of the biggest potato growing operations you’ll see. Farm manager Andrew Mickelson is doing something novel this year, in the year of the pandemic. He's taking his friends and neighbors behind the scenes on his Facebook page. The reason we do this, is on potato seed. One thing you can do with it is you can cut it and let it heal up before you put it into the ground. Helps us so that we can have a little bit better seed going to the ground. A little easier to plant. And it's helped our whole schedule and timing worked out better. You see here, we'll leave it here for several weeks, let it dry out. And then from here, It'll go into the planters.

and on Mickelson's Facebook page, he then showed us the dust part of the seed process. Today, we're looking at the dust. I know I'm at the top of the cellar and I'm going to kind of hold the phone over the edge so you can see what we’re doing with all these spuds. they’re really wet and everything, and so we placed the powder that'll help them supervise that process, it'll dry out a little bit and protect them from fungus and disease. So day four’s going great, we’ll keep it up and hope we’ll have a great day by the end of today. Mickelson's Facebook posts illustrate all the work before planting. Stay tuned to the Facebook page for updates from one of Idaho's best producers
