02/15/06 Wine and travel - Walla Walla

Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and today is the day we discuss wine and travel, exploring places to go and events to attend, with wine in mind. As always, we will spend today exploring special venues with food and wine in mind. BREAK As most of you know, I live in Washington state wine country and I love it. When we feel the need to visit a metropolitan area, it is convenient to both Seattle and Portland. But if we don't have that much time we can take a day or weekend trip to Walla Walla, Washington. You listeners on the east coast may have read about it many a wine publication. It is a small, very quaint town, that boasts some of the most famous wineries in Washington. There is an airport there so you can fly in after a stop in a major city. If you plan to go out into wine country I recommend that you rent a car. First of all for a town this size it has quite a few very good restaurants. For just very good food at a fair price, and a fabulous winelist, you must visit Whitehouse Crawford. Tom will be happy to guide you through the list, which to my pleasure, features many single vineyard wines. Next accommodations are also plentiful. Besides the Bed & Breakfasts - there is the Marcus Whitman Hotel. It is right downtown and just a short walk to Whitehouse Crawford. Do yourself a favor and rent a suite, they are just that much nicer than the regular rooms. Remember to send your wine questions to Linda ta vine to wine dot net and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
