Answering Questions From Almond Buyers

Almond buyers around the country have lots of questions as to how California Almond farmers product their crop.

Ben Goudie is Membership Development for Blue Diamond Growers who move a lot of almonds around the world. He noted that buyers of their products for distribution are interested in sustainability growing practices.

We asked Goudie how these almond buyers and distributors are responding to the answers they're getting. “So far, it's been a good conversation. It's an ongoing conversation. And certain buyers and certain retailers have certain things that they're looking for,” noted Goudie. “For instance, greenhouse gas reductions and they want to know, uh, what are we doing about that,” he said

And we ask Goudie for some specifics on how Blue Diamond is reducing greenhouse gases. “I would say on the corporate level, we just recently had a project looking at our supply chain and our trucking and we had a significant savings in taking a number of truck miles off the road,” Goudie said.

“And that is also a contributing factor when it comes to corporate sustainability as being able to look at things like that. Being able to quantify that, as well as looking at the sustainable practices that our growers are doing,” Goudie said. “And we know that our growers who are largely family farmers, we know that they're doing sustainable practices and have been doing sustainable practices. This allows us to put that into numbers and also to verify exactly what they're doing.”
