Emily Fleischmann is Vice President of Global Marketing Development with the Almond Board of California.

“It's been tremendous growth. So 42,532 is the number of new products of almonds produced over the past five years. And I think, could people have foreseen this coming? I don't know that they could ever see that amount of growth,” said Fleischmann. “But the reality is, I think the industries did see that there was a lot of potential based on the healthfulness of almonds, and how much distribution they already had in current markets. That with it, the right investment could grow. Now hopefully this is, beyond everyone's wildest imagination,” she said

Fleischmann said there's no reason why the advancement of almond products and almond consumption shouldn't continue to grow.

“We think there's an upside. There are still eight of the countries that we sit in that have less than two pounds of consumption. And we know there are markets that we aren't in, such as South America and Africa, where we think there's also a tremendous upside.

Again, there's not much almond consumption in many countries around the world except for the U.S. and Canada. “Canada's at 2.0 pounds. And the U.S. is at 2.2,” Fleischmann said.

Fleischmann is bullish on increased consumption around the world. “I think there's still upside in the U.S. we think about consumers eating about 20 pounds of candy a year, or over a hundred pounds of chicken. You know, what's another proud of almonds,” she said.
