FFA National Secretary Pt 1

Bob Larson
I’m Bob Larson. A proud moment for the Pacific Northwest after a young woman from Eastern Oregon is elected National FFA Secretary at the annual convention in Indianapolis.

Kourtney Lehman, of Baker City and past-president of the Oregon FFA says the honor is indescribable …

LEHMAN … “I can’t even begin to describe it. It was the most exciting moment and I literally thought I was going to pass out. I’m not sure how I got on stage, but I’m just so overwhelmed to be here and so excited to be with all of my teammates and start to get to know them and all the members for National FFA.”

And, where’d it all begin for Lehman? …

LEHMAN … “Well, the first three years of my life were spent on a dairy in Western Idaho. Since then, my family has moved to Oregon where we now have our own farm and I get to spend every summer raking and baling hay which I absolutely love to work along side my dad and my brother.”

And, Lehman says that’s what it’s all about …

LEHMAN … “I’m grateful to have an amazing family in Eastern Oregon. They’re always there for me and I now attend school at Oregon State University where I study agricultural business management.”

FFA, Lehman says found her …

LEHMAN … “Honestly, I joined FFA because my agriculture teacher at the time, Seth Bingham, found me at the county fair and said hey, you’re a pretty good livestock judger. Come join us in FFA so you can do it with us and from that moment it just kind of spread from there.”

Each year, six students are elected to represent the organization as national officers who commit to a year of service, traveling more than 100,000 miles.

FFA is a national youth organization of more than 700,000 student members as part of 8,600 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
