This week cattlemen and cattlewomen across the region area received another glimpse about what this year's calf crop is worth as Northern Livestock Video Auction (NLVA) held it's "Summertime Classic" Sale in Billings, Montana.

NLVA's Ty Thompson said the market looked a little bit higher than just a month ago.

"We had some of those four weight calves right up against two dollars" said Thompson. "Then we had those five weight calves and a lot of those lower five weight calves from a $1.68 to a $1.78. And then as we moved into the middle five weight steer calves, they were anywhere from a $1.62 to a $1.72. You know, the calves with programs behind them like Gap, NHTC and All-Natural will bring all the way up to $1.70. The calves without it or a little more freight problems will bring in the high 50's on those low six weight calves. So all in all, I would say the market was probably five higher on the steers in June and the heifers would have been three or four higher also with real good demand."

The 6-700 lb steers sold $1.54-$1.72 and 7-800 lb steers sold $1.47-$1.52.

NLVA also sold over 40,000 head sheep this week with 80-95 lb lambs selling $1.59-$1.70 and 100-120 lb lambs selling $1.44-$1.57.
