I recently had to make a trip to Salt Lake City from Boise and as I headed east I was amazed by the number of windmills I saw along the freeway. Presumably these were on farms and must provide significant revenue to landowners. Uniting voices offers a collaborated force for landowners when it comes to developing renewable energy. Landowner groups allow rural land owners to band together to attract wind energy developments, along with a united negotiating front. Paul Stout, board member of the Coalition of Renewable Energy Landowners Association, says the association started in 2009. “This movement really started back in Wyoming organizing landowners into associations to help get common agreements, get better deals with developers, there are a lot of political aspects, the wind energy development deals with endangered species issues, issues with military airspace and other local government issues.

 

Specifically, landowner wind associations, Stout says, offers a level playing field for all landowners involved in wind development, and offers a single negotiating point for developers
