Eclipse and Pear Harvest Pt 1
With today's Fruit Grower Report, I'm Bob Larson. A big, big day in the Pacific Northwest where the path of totality will allow viewers to see the historic total eclipse of the sun ... AND ... where growers begin the fresh pear harvest hoping to "eclipse" production and sales from last year!Kathy Stephenson, with Pear Bureau Northwest, says the timing and the theme was just too good to NOT use ...
KATHY STEPHENSON ... "The first days of the fresh pear harvest happen to fall right during the very exciting events in the Northwest and across the United States which is the total eclipse. The path of totality does cross over many of our pear orchards, but it's certainly in our region and it's certainly a huge topic of conversation for people in this area."
Stephenson says it is the perfect opportunity to spread the word on this year's pears ...
KATHY STEPHENSON ... "So, we thought we would share the excitement by sending to our produce buyers across the country a little introduction to what we're seeing in the Northwest. So, we sent out viewing glasses for the eclipse and a little invitation to contact the Northwest Pear team in order to learn more about what we have in store for the new season. So, again, harvest is going on this week. The eclipse is going on this week. It just seemed like the perfect tie-in to connect everything back to Northwest Pears."
Buyers received an eye-catching mailer to remind them of all the exciting opportunities that coincide today here in the Pacific Northwest. Listen tomorrow to hear more about the tie-in between this year's pear harvest and the total eclipse.
