A fascinating discussion with Alan Reed of Reed's dairy in Idaho Falls. "The email I got from Tony Harrison, who was a public relations guy for United Dairymen of Idaho says you are a legendary dairy man from Idaho Falls whose ice cream gets rave reviews. Pretty high praise. What have you done to deserve that? Well we did get into Saveur Magazine and they did say something about the flavor was spectacular and out of this world. We have been in the dairy business, my dad and his two brothers started it back in 1950 and I took the reins in 1978 and I guess if I were making a case for legendary, I got us going in the cheese business and the ice cream business and we developed a no sugar added, low-fat ice cream that we were selling coast to coast. I have sold our regular ice cream into Japan. I have a market over there that is taking our ice cream. I developed a very interesting process for a caso fresco type of cheese that we actually sold that formula. We have just built a good business I guess. Where did you get those talents? I am more of a mad scientist been a food scientist and I have learned enough to know how things go together and I am not afraid to try interesting combinations of things.”
