USDA/NASS At Local Colleges Recruiting For Statisticians
.I’m Susan Allen Chris Mertz Northwest Regional Director for the USDA/NASSIs on the road visiting both the University of Idaho and WSU this week recruiting for positions with the USDA. Here is what he is looking for:
MERTZ: We like to attend our local universities and visit with students that are interested in Agriculture and have some math and statistics background. For those that meet the qualifications, there will be a nationwide job announcement at the end of October, and we are going to encourage the students to apply for entry-level statistician positions for openings within our regional office here in Olympia or any of the other 11 offices across the country. There are 12 regions in our agency.
So we like to visit with students who are interested in agriculture and talk to them and encourage them to consider being a statistician for the US Department of Agriculture.
I imagine that you might get interested from students at universities other than our land grant ones
MERTZ: That is correct, and I even have employees in my office from the UofW and Oregon, as long as they meet the qualifications of 15 hours of math and statistics a person can be a statistician for the Department of Agriculture, of course, an interest in agriculture helps but that is not a requirement.
Christopher said they would also be talking to students that are interested in summer internships as well for those who haven’t graduated, so if you are interested contact USDA/NASS office in Olympia for information.
