“Today at the ranch, what we want to do is give you some background and teach you some things about agriculture. “ For over 30 years, the third grade classes of Pioneer Elementary in Wieser have made the annual trek to Chandler Valley Ranch to touch, smell and see agriculture. It's a good time to find out if you are smarter than a third grader when it comes to farm life. Alice Chandler has fun running little quizzes. "How many pounds of food does a cow eat in a day? 15? 10? 6? 100? 55 pounds of food a day. What is the first thing you have to do to get a field of wheat? plant the seeds. Very good.”

Cody Chandler manages the cattle herd on the ranch. While on horseback he talked to the kids about ranch life. “The spur isn't just to kick the horse. If I want to backup, I use my spur to tell him to back up. No matter what I want to do the horse will do it. That is how I communicate with him. He doesn't speak English.” Let's go over here and talk about Maggie.

Maggie is a milkable, plastic Holstein cow. She travels the state in the Farm Bureau mobile classroom. It is the main attraction for the kids. “They love Maggie, they really do.” Alice Chandler who is vice-chairman of the Farm Bureau Women's Leadership committee says the trailer offers many hands-on tools that kids enjoy and learn from. "I think everything we have available is important for educating the kids.
