Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time. I simply do not drink wine that I do not like. Recently, I was treated to a wine from the Library Collection of a friend and I did find my new favorite wine.
At a dinner with friends who are collectors of many of the original winemakers in Washington state I was asked to taste a wine and give my opinion. The wine was a 1989 Gordon Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon. A 16 year old wine I was both excited and skeptical at the same time. But as soon as I lifted the glass and saw the color I knew there was still going to be life in the wine. As I put my nose into the glass, I was delighted to smell how alive the wine still was. It had a balanced nose that let me know someone had done a one heck of a good job making the wine in the beginning. The flavors were all there perfectly knit with just the right amount of acid to keep it lively but not enough to interfere with how smooth and still lush the wine was. I watched as each person at the table lifted the wine to smell and taste. It was unanimous and the only thing we could have asked for was more! My theory along with everyone else at the table was that this wine aged very well because the restrained use of oak made it possible for the rest of the character in the wine to last and really show off. I for one will be purchasing some Gordon Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon, because I now know the potential. And if you are looking for an excellent Sauvignon Blanc then try Gordon Brothers it just seems to go with everything! And thank you for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
