I'm Susan Allen this is the Fruit Grower Report. With the national weather service issuing severe weather warnings and high fire danger for the eastern part of the Northwest, I asked Scott Hanson a spokesman for Mutual of Enumclaw, the insurance company is known for it's wildfire education outreach to speak on the importance of having a wildfire preparedness plan.

Hanson: There's some things that can be done, I kind of look at that and I break it down into a few different categories. The first thing is taking personal responsibilities for your property and taking action to make sure that your property immediately surrounding your home and buildings and that has what called defensible space. Defensible space is really just bout using common sense around th e landscaping your home. A lot of fires , a lot of home fires in a wild fire scenario ignite because there's scattered decaying debris like leaves and pine needles that have accumulated on roofs or have windblown into decks against the house then wind blown embers land in hat material and ignite that material and ultimately the house on fire . So the extent to which you can take some time ahead of time to keep your property maintained cleaned of that debris. Keep trees limbed up, making sure your landscaping is irrigated and green if possible, maybe create some clear spaces if you have lots of natural landscape, try to keep trees and shrubs to a minimal or at least space them out. Any of that kind of stuff will help when a wildfire is imminent. Be ready for wildfire season. Visit Mutual of Enumclaw's com/wildfire and follow their preparedness list .
