This is the Agribusiness Update I'm Susan Allen. More government regulations impact the western wheat industry. A provision in the 7 part Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), will have serious implications on how wheat is handled and transported. The Act contains the new "sanitary transportation rule " that puts the responsibility on shippers and receivers, to make sure the containers they are loading into are clean, and that will mean more record keeping for those moving grain and feed. Grain elevators operators, feed mills, semi-trailers even the back of pick-ups beds of both shippers and receivers will have to ensure they are clean are clean and free from hazard.

And NW based JR Simplot can now sell it's GMO potatoes to Canada. The company uses biotechnology to remove the browning bruising traits but does not use foreign genes. Health Canada and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency have approved the potato for sale Tthe potatoes will not have a label indicating they are genetically engineered because the Canadian government has called them safe for consumption. J.R.Simpot expects their non-browning spuds in Canadian supermarkets by Thanksgiving.I'm Susan Allen for the Agribusiness Update.
