Kansas Wildfires and How to Contribute

Many throughout the West have experienced devastation caused by wildfires in the past. Recently a large wildfire started in Oklahoma and spread to SouthCentral Kansas has burned nearly 400,000 acres, hay reserves, fences and other personal property.
Kansas Livestock Association VP of Communication Todd Domer says that since many fences were cut to allow firefighters to fight the wildfire as well as gates opened to let cattle to escape the fire, ranchers are still trying determined their losses.
Domer: “People are still in the process of trying to find cattle and figure what kind of losses they might have, what kind of injuries or what kind of health issues they might have to address.”
Domer continues with how people can help those affected by the wildfire.
Domer: “The priority at this point is cash donations to the Kansas Livestock Foundation — which is the charitable arm of the Kansas Livestock Association. These donations will be used by the Foundation to help fund fencing supplies, treatment for cattle injured in the fire and other priority needs identified by our local KLA leadership in Barber and Comanche Counties. Every dollar collected will be used to provide relief for ranchers in that affected area. To make a tax deductible donation, listeners can go to KLA.org and there will be a link on the left hand side of the page that will take them to the Wildfire Relief Fund.”
