Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week
Sanders: “We had about 6350 tons of hay trade compared to last Friday all grades of alfalfa was weak. Some producers are combining first through fifth cuttings at the same price in order to sell it. Most interests are concentrated on farming this time of the year. Parts of the southern basin have received canal irrigation water this week. Premium/supreme alfalfa that was tarped sold for $95 to $125. Premium to good alfalfa that was also tarped sold for $90 to $95 and utility sold at $75 a ton. Timothy grass small squares for the retail market sold for $260 per ton.
In Idaho compared to the previous week all grades of alfalfa were steady in a light test. Trade was very slow with continued light demand.Supplies remain heavy. Mid square bales of alfalfa rated fair to good with rain damaged sold for $95 per ton and the same tarped sold for $117 per ton.
In Oregon, trade generally steady in a limited test. In Klamath Basin, small squares of premium alfalfa for the retail/stable sold for $200 per ton. In Lake County triticale large bales rated good sold for $80 per ton. In Harney County small square bales of alfalfa rated good sold for $125 per ton. In Eastern Oregon large square bales of alfalfa rated good sold for $125.
