WOTUS Veto & Canine Influenza

WOTUS Veto & Canine Influenza. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

Good idea or bad? The Waters of the U.S. ruling has been getting stretched over the racks lately and the U.S. Senate Thursday failed to override President Obama’s veto of the Waters of the U.S. repeal. The 52-40 vote fell eight short of the 60-vote majority needed to shut down debate and move to an override vote. Democrats insist the rule is about clean water and that Congress gave the Environmental Protection Agency the power to keep water clean. Iowa Republican Joni Ernst, who authored the resolution to disapprove WOTUS, says the EPA illegally promoted the rule, as found in a Government Accountability Office report.

ERNST: Instead of listening to those that will be most impacted by this rule the EPA thought it would be better to use taxpayer dollars to illegally solicit comments in an effort to falsely justify their power grab.

At least 2000 dogs in 25 states have contracted a canine influenza that causes respiratory symptoms, primarily a cough. So far there have not been any cases found here in the northwest but veterinarians warn that if man’s best friend begins to show signs of a respiratory distress you should contact them right away.

That’s today’s Northwest Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
