Regional Weekly Hay Report

Here is USDA Grain and Livestock Reporter Greg Sanders with the Columbia Basin Hay report from last week.
Sanders: “We had about 5,800 tons of hay trade this week. Compared to last Friday, supreme dairy fourth and fifth cutting alfalfa steady to firm as dairies find higher testing supplies. Export hay steady in a light test. Supreme alfalfa FOB at $215. Premium/supreme alfalfa FOB the farm at $190. Alfalfa small square bales for retail market $260 to $265. Orchard grass $260 to $275 for the retail market.
In Idaho compared to previous week, supreme, premium and good alfalfa was steady to $10 lower. Trade turned moderate last week as a few producers decided to tie stacks together for one price regardless of the test. Demand was light to moderate. Supreme mid-square bales of alfalfa sold between $170 ad $190. Premium mid-square alfalfa bales sold for $160 per ton.
In Oregon, prices trended generally steady in comparison to the previous week. Export sales have picked up slightly. In Central Oregon, small square bales of orchard grass rated premium were sold for $250 per ton for the retail and stable market. In Eastern Oregon alfalfa large squares rated premium sold for $200 per ton. In Klamath Basin fair large square alfalfa bales sold for $150 per ton. In Harney County, there were no new sales confirmed.
