The herd of dairy cattle at Treasured Sunrise Acres in Parma is certified as Animal Welfare Approved or AWA. This certification and food label lets consumers know these animals are raised in accordance with the highest animal welfare standards in the U.S. and Canada, using sustainable agriculture methods on an independent family farm.

?Like other AWA farmers across the country, Debra Jantzi recognizes the growing consumer interest in how animals are raised on farms. Managing animals outdoors on pasture or range has known benefits for animals, consumers and the environment. In 2009, Jantzi and her nine children turned their hobby of producing their own cow's milk into a source of income when they moved from the Willamette Valley in Oregon to the Treasure Valley of western Idaho, and established Treasured Sunrise Acres.

?The 53-acre farm is home to a small herd of Certified AWA Jersey cows that grazes large irrigated pastures from early spring to late fall. The cattle are also fed high-quality, local alfalfa hay, sprouted barley and fodder, and a custom, locally-produced mineral supplement. They never receive grain.

?Emily Moose Dir. of Communications and Outreach of Animal Welfare Approved: "The accountability and integrity offered by Animal Welfare Approved farmers are unmatched in food production."

?Treasured Sunrise Acres Certified AWA cow's milk is available direct from the farm, as well as at retail locations in eastern Oregon and western Idaho. For more information about the farm, visit www.treasuredsunriseacres.com or contact Debra at treasuredsunrise@hotmail.com or (208) 649-7602.
