FSA County Committee Nomination Period Begins Next Week

On Monday, the nomination period will begin for election on to the Farm Service Agency’s County Committee. Washington State Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency Judy Olson shares more
Olson: “Nomination forms are available online or you can get them at your County FSA office. You may nominate yourself or a friend or neighbor. It takes three producers’ signatures to make the nomination — so that is how it happens. And the nomination forms have to be back in the County FSA office by August 3rd.
What kind of time commitment is serving on a FSA County Committee? Olson continues
Olson: “Your time is paid for as is your travel. You do become a federal employee for the hours that you actually spend doing county committee work. Most of the committees meet eight to 10 times a year. Most of the meetings take a few hours - maybe a half of day. It depends on the county and how many active producers there are, if there are appeals and etc. but some are a little longer and some a little shorter. If they would think of a day a month. Their travel and their time is paid for but it is a commitment of a day a month.”
To be eligible to serve on a FSA county committee, a person must participate or cooperate in an agency administered program; be eligible to vote in a county committee election and reside in the local administrative area where they are nominated.
