The 85th Washington State FFA Convention

The 85th Washington State FFA Convention

I had the opportunity to be in Pullman during the 85th Annual Washington State FFA Convention. The campus is filled with blue jackets and lots of enthusiasm for all things FFA. I spoke with outgoing State Reporter Sam Brown about one of the focuses of the state officers as well as.
Brown: “Our team has really focused on community service this year. So we’ve done everything from volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House in Spokane to various community service projects that we are even putting on here at convention.
Brown says for the first time at a Convention — they asked FFA chapters to bring times for a hygiene product drive for the needy. She says it is important to bring the element of community service into the convention activities.
Brown: “We are really pushing the service aspect because a lot of times it is really not focused on. And it seems like it is just a requirement but we want make sure that it is something that kids are passionate about and that they realize what they are doing is really good and makes them feel good.”
An another exciting new element of giving back
Brown: “Another community piece is kids are coming in from the elementary schools from Pullman and Colton area and they are going to be able to learn about agriculture from all across the state. Same with the members — a lot of them haven’t gotten out of their home town. We want to show them what the rest of the state looks like.”
