Commitment to Managing Purebred Consignment Sales

As with any industry, the purebred cattle business has changed over the years and many breeders have turned from participating in consignment sales to having their own production sale. Which is fine for breeders with larger herds but a bit more problematic for those who don’t have that many head of cattle.
Personally as a small purebred Angus producer, I wouldn’t have many choices for marketing my bulls if it wasn’t for consignment sales. Kendall Cattle Sales Gary Kendall has been a big supporter of consignment sales and since the 80’s managed many of the region’s purebred cattle consignments. He shares
Kendall: “A god consignment sale though is still a good product because it gives people that have smaller operations to merchandise their sales.”
He is now officially retired from the cattle sale management business. In fact his last sale was the WCA Bull Test and Sale last week. I asked him what he enjoyed the most about his business. He shares one of his business philosophies — which can work for anyone in any industry.
Kendall: “I like the people. The people have been good. If you treat people good they will treat you good. If you put your effort into it and they see that you are putting your effort into it — they don’t care even if something doesn’t turn out quite right. They will always forgive that portion of it if you have put an effort out to get the job done.”
