Federation of State Beef Councils' Immediate Past Chairman Shares Thoughts

Idaho cattle feeder Cevin Jones stepped down as Chairman of the Federation of State Beef Councils during last month’s Cattle Industry Convention. Jones shares some of the positives steps taken in the Federation during the past year.
Jones: “We’ve got the Checkoff Enhancement Working Group that’s been working forward, and being part of that, and seeing how that’s been working out. It’s had its ups and downs, but it’s continuing to work forward and it’s going to continue to work forward this next year. The committee changes that we instituted over the past two years, now, I think we’re really starting to see the benefits of that. We started seeing the benefits last year, and then moving forward. Also we’re in the new Long Range Planning cycle process, and we’ve got just a phenomenal group of people there who will be taking a look over this next year into what do they see in the future, and we’ve got some really intelligent, bright people looking at that. That will be a lot of fun to see how that turns out.”
According to Jones, it is important for those not directly involved in the process to share their opinions with those making decisions on checkoff programs at both the state and national levels.
Jones: “Probably doesn’t get appreciated enough; so if you know someone who is doing it and doing a good job, be sure to tell them that. We’re all working to make the industry better, for ourselves and for everybody else.”
