Beef Stakeholders Meet to Discuss Food Safety

The beef industry for the past 13 years has hosted a meeting including all segments of the industry — from cow-calf producer, feeder, packer, processor and food service and retailer to discuss food safety. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Executive Director of Legislative Affairs Kristina Butts recaps the Beef Industry Safety Summit held last week in Dallas.
Butts: “And really we come together under one mission and that is have open conversations and discussion about the safety of our product, knowledge gaps and maybe some possibilities for some future research. There is also a great segment of the actual industry meeting that does talk about the latest research. So really it is a great learning opportunity for all stakeholders involved in the beef industry all the way from farm to fork.”
If you are interested in learning more about the research presented at this meeting, Butts shares
Butts: “So the industry has a newly updated website which I would encourage everyone to go and check out. It’s called beefresearch.org and this is really a great landing spot for anyone that is curious to the types of research that is out there in regards to the beef industry. So for instance — on the safety of our product, the nutritional composition of our product, to some of the different cuts of lean beef that we have today. Anybody can go to beefresearch.org and check out some of the latest research that has been peer-reviewed and published and is really available for anyone to access.”
