Utilizing Resources Part 2

Utilizing Resources Part 2. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

Are you utilizing all the resources at hand to help your operation? Dr. Desmond Layne, Endowed Chair of WSU's Tree Fruit Extension recently talked about what and how to get the most out of things like your computer.

LAYNE: Google Alerts is a very nice feature that you can sign up for free where you can have emails sent to you when new results are found on the web by Google that fit the keywords that you are looking for. If you go to the Google Alerts website, it's just google.com/alerts and you can create an alert using different keywords. So let's say you wanted to find out about anytime there's anything on the internet that has to do with apples and fire blight, you can set up a Google Alert for that.

Layne says there are a lot of magazines and journals available for all kinds of fruits and vegetables.

LAYNE: And then how many of you read the European fruit growers magazine? This is a very nice magazine. If you want to get the perspective of what's going on in Europe. They also have a website where they archive the back issues. Of course many of you are members of IFTA and they have a journal that comes out on a regular basis with research articles and they also have a website. There are international journals that have published abstracts about scientific research that relates to tree fruit. You can go online and look at horticulture journals like Hort Science.

That's today's Fruit Grower Report. I'm Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network of the West.
