Beef Counts Events Make Protein Available For the Hungry

This week there are three Beef Counts mobile food distributions events happening in Washington state. Second Harvest’s Chief Resource Officer Rod Wieber shares the difference the Beef Counts program makes
Wieber: “It is huge to those clients who come through our mobile food bank line. These are struggling low income families, they are seniors, they are households who are trying to get some extra nutrition and food in their cupboards. The Washington beef community — ranchers and beef producers — will be handing out beef products; whether it might be beef roasts or beef ground chuck. That is just huge because beef is a product — especially protein — that we see very little of through our donation stream. To be able to hand out such a great nutritious quality product to them this week will be tremendous.”
Wieber adds a big thank you to all the volunteers from Washington’s Beef Community who will be helping at these mobile food distributions. He adds
Weiber: “We’ve got such great partners between AgriBeef who started this program back in 2010. Along with them, the Washington Cattle Feeders, Washington Cattlemen and Women and the Washington Livestock Marketing Association and then of course the Washington Beef Commission.”
