06/24/05 New favorite - Syrahs

Welcome to Vine to Wine, this is your host Linda Moran and as most of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine in my glass at the time. Because I simply do not drink wine that I don't like. Join me today as we talk about some wines that I recently opened for friends. A while back we had friends over and it was a good excuse to bring out a variety of wines all made from the grape Syrah but from different wineries. We determined that of the four wines that we opened only one wasn't a wine that we would seek out again. However, the other three were really very good. The first was from James Leigh Cellars made in Walla Walla Washington. The second was from Apex Cellars a winery in Sunnyside Washington and the third was from Tablas Creek Vineyards a winery in Paso Robles California. The James Leigh Cellars was a 2002 Forgotten Hills Vineyard Syrah it was lush and rich with a mouthful of ripe bing cherries. The Apex Cellars Syrah was a bit older wine from the 2000 vintage and it is aging beautifully. It was smooth and earthy and the fruit is still strong and vibrant. The last wine Tablas Creek was the Las Tablas Estates Glenrose Vineyard it is I admit a blend although Syrah is the predominant grape. It was a stellar wine. It was intense and had depth of flavors that left us with a very long finish. You can find out more about these wines and how to get them by just going to the internet and doing a search for James Leigh Cellars, Apex Cellars and Tablas Creek Vineyards and thanks for joining me on today's Vine to Wine.
