Beef and a triathlon. Recent research has shown without a doubt that lean muscle needs to be fueled with protein when it is being used hard as in a triathlon or any other serious exercise. The Idaho Beef Council’s Executive Director Traci Bracco doesn’t just know that, she's involved. “Saturday, June 7 it is an Ironman triathlon which includes a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile bike ride, followed by a 13.1 mile run which is quite an endurance event for athletes. This is the sixth year that we are on board as one of the premier sponsors at the event, and one of the reasons we came on board as a sponsor is that we know that athletes spend hours and hours training in preparation for an event like this so repairing and rebuilding their fatigued muscles is critical for peak performance. Beef is one of the great food items that rebuilds and maintains muscle mass. It provides energy and is a nutrient powerhouse. It is for those reasons that we came on board and aligned ourselves with this sponsorship. As part of our sponsorship, we are going to be available all throughout the race course. We will have food available for the athletes following the race in the beef recovery zone, we will be part of their today fitness Expo before the race, and on race day we will have between 80 and 100 athletes actually out there as part of Team Beef. They will be donning the beef jerseys and demonstrating the power of lean beef protein by participating in the event and showing what protein does for their bodies.
