Up Day in Grain Markets Thursday

I’m KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for April 4, 2014.

It was green across the board with the grains and the cattle markets traded higher on Thursday. From the floor of the CME Group, Larry Shover shares his observations of Thursday’s markets.

Shover: “Well Thursday’s grain trade, we saw a lot of green at the CME Group here. May wheat ended up about 5 cents on the day. It seems like geo-political risks are now taking a back burner to everything else. Taiwanese tendered about 92,500. USDA export sales came in right chuck in the middle of expectations.”

Chicago May Wheat ended Thursday up 6 and 3/4 cents at 6-76. May corn ended the day up 4 and 1/4 cents at $5 a bushel even.

Portland prices for soft white wheat were steady to up 6 and 3/4 cents at mostly 7-69 and 1/2. White club wheat prices were up 6 and 3/4 to 10 and 3/4 cents at mostly 8-21 and 1/2. Hard Red Winter wheat with 11.5 percent protein prices were up 5 and 1/4 cents at mostly 8-71. DNS wheat with 14 percent protein prices were up 8 and 1/4 cents at mostly 9-04 and 1/2.

June live cattle were up 60 cents on Thursday at 137-37 and half. May Feeder cattle were up $2.17 and half at 180-15. May class III milk was up 34 cents at 22-70.
