Tree Fruit Headlines. I'm Greg Martin with today's Fruit Grower Report.

I get a lot of information passed to me each day and it is sometimes hard to get to all of it. So I thought I'd take a minute here and just run through some of the headlines that might be affecting tree fruit growers here in the northwest.

Apple Holdings Down 3% – About 61.5 million bushels of U.S. fresh market apples had yet to be shipped as of March 1, 3% less than last year at the same time. The March 1 total is, however, 6% above the 5-year average of 58.2 million bushels, according to the March Market News report from the Vienna, Va.-based U.S. Apple Association.

Crop Load Management Can Boost Profits – Cornell University horticulturalist Terence Robinson promoted apple crop load management during the International Fruit Tree Association's annual conference in Kelowna, British Columbia, in February. Robinson stressed that bud counting and fruit measurement "has the largest impact on profitability."

US Apple is changing their logo to be more in line with current trends and social media. You will see the new logo begin popping up on all their marketing pieces and it will be available for anyone who currently uses the old logo.
