Ag producers are aware that they face multiple, important risk management choices as result of the new farm bill. They just don't know when they will have to make many of those choices. National Crop Insurance Services Spokesperson, Seanica (Shawn-ick-a) Otterby has more: "Ag producers are aware that they face multiple, important risk management choices as result of the new Farm Bill. They just don't know when they will have to make many of those choices. The one thing they do know is that for most of them - March 17th is the deadline for signing up for crop insurance on spring planted crops - and for making any changes to existing policies. Making changes is something many farmers will consider this year because no matter what other choices they face - it seems clear that the more crop insurance coverage they have - the more advantage those new FSA programs will provide. Producers should meet with their crop insurance agent as soon as possible to help make any adjustments to their crop insurance coverage.  The deadline for most producers is March 17th.

We also know that Keith Collins - former USDA chief economist - took the lead on the post-2014 Farm Bill update when he said that the "The 2014 farm bill represents a turning point in federal policy toward US agriculture. It moves away from the traditional pricing income support programs of the past into a risk management model that features crop insurance. Crop insurance is now the farmer's primary and for many their only risk management tool. Farmers need to know what has been eliminated by the farm bill and the important policy changes that might affect their risk management decisions year after year.
