Outdoors in a wheelchair. What follows is a story told by Bill Potter about a friend who is a veteran in a wheelchair. "Eight or nine years ago I was introduced to this project, "Healing Waters Fly Fishing", because I am a fly fisherman. I started working with some that's coming out of Walter Reed in Bethesda Maryland around flyfishing. This is when I just moved to Sun Valley. "Higher Ground" was the military fix it camp, for lack of a better word, four wounded military and their spouses. When I got involved with project "Healing Waters" there were about 40 chapters around the country and now I think there are about 175 chapters. Throughout my travel with these wounded veterans, I have become very close to them. And about two years ago I was introduced to Andrew Pike. Andrew took a sniper round through the gut and it took out his kidney and a shockwave from the bullet got so close to his spinal cord it pretty much destroyed everything from the high waist down so he has nothing down below. However, he and I have hunted and fished together. The first time that I went hunting with him, we went duck hunting down in Hagerman, the wind was howling and it was cold, it was a miserable day, great day for ducks. He is out there in a very lightweight and scary wheelchair. I looked at him and said Andrew, if you make one false move in this wheelchair you are going to go swimming and you are not going to feel anything because you can't. And I said I am going to have to get you out of that pond but I can't so we will just have to wait for the next forklift to come along." Tomorrow were going to find out about a solution.
