I am not a doomsday sayer but these monumental storms that we have seen in the last year do have me concerned and scratching my head. Not only is it the number of storms that we see, but their intensity. And they make no sense timewise. Take for example, in October blizzard in the north-central US. Well there is a positive note. Cattlemen and others in the agriculture community have reached out to fellow ranchers in South Dakota and other portions of the North Central U.S. following the devastating October blizzard. Hugh Ingalls of Centennial Angus in Faith, South Dakota experienced firsthand some of the storms' monumental losses - and the kindness of the agriculture community. "I have lost cattle to weather before but not to this extent. There will be a catastrophe that comes along, every once in a while and cattle will go through the ice. We have been fortunate not to have disease but I am concerned about the younger ranchers who are trying to buy a place and get a bunch of cattle put together and I am pleased to see a lot of local effort, different organizations, raising funds in order to tide them over until they can get back on their feet.
