New Insurance Coverage

New Insurance Coverage

New Insurance Coverage. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Jo Lynne Seufer, Risk Management Specialist with USDA’s Risk Management Agency says they have just announced some new coverage availability.

SEUFER: We’re really excited about the tart cherry, particularly for processing, expansion into Adams, Franklin and Grant counties. And then our table grape crop insurance is in a completely new expansion. We currently only have it available in Canyon County, Idaho. But all of these crops, if there is a producer of table grapes in Yakima county, they can now get a written agreement.

That will help expand the coverage area. She talks about how to get signed up.

SEUFER: First thing is definitely contact their local crop insurance agent by November 20th. Absolutely no later than Wednesday, November 20th and that would include all of our perennial fruit crops; apples, blueberries, cranberries, regular grapes - grapes for juice and wine. Our pear crop and our stone fruit crop. Definitely everyone needs to contact their agent.

Seufer explains in a bit more detail.

SEUFER: For all of the perennials except for the cherries they are a yield base protection policy so when they have a freeze or hail or rain can sometimes damage crops as well, they can get a loss payment for the yield loss. Now for the cherries it’s an actually revenue history. It’s based on the revenue they have made.
