Immigration Reform Moves Ahead

Immigration Reform Moves Ahead. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

The two main issues this year for agriculture are the farm bill which seems to be mired in bureaucratic mud...and the immigration bill which should see some movement this week according to Dan Fazio with Washington Farm Labor Association.

FAZIO: In the Senate, there was a significant amendment to increase border security, and that has brought on several new Republicans without losing any democratic Senators. That’s real good news. Over in the house, 2 individual bills or bills that address individual parts of the immigration problem and they were reported out of the judiciary committee– one of them on border security, and another that dealt with the agricultural guest worker program.

Fazio says they have some great information on their website for anyone interested in learning more.

FAZIO: We contacted one of the leading attorneys in the nation about agricultural labor issues, Leon Sequeria, and Leon recorded a 20 minute immigration reform webcast, which is now posted and available for everyone to watch at our website, wafla.org. W A F L A. O R G.

The Senate is slated to pick up on the immigration this week.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
