Welcome to Vine to Wine this is your host Linda Moran and as many of you know my new favorite wine is usually the wine that is in my glass at the time because I simply do not drink wine that I don't like. Join me today as we talk about a grape that I love and a wine that includes it in the blend.
I am always delighted when I go back to a wine that was once a favorite and find that I still like it so much it becomes once again my new favorite wine. Years ago I was introduced to an Australian wine producer from the Barossa Valley. The winery was Yalumba. This winery has been around for about a century and a half and they make some truly great wines. One wine that I liked then and still like now is the Yalumba Bush Vines Grenache. The term bush vine is referring to the way in which the vines are trained to grow. The vine growing the grapes for this particular wine are over 70 years old and the folks at Yalumba are particularly proud of these vines and their gnarly looks. But what impresses me is the dense rich fruit that makes up this hand picked, hand crafted wine. It is medium body with luscious fruit and well balanced tannins and just a touch of black pepper that truly compliments the juicy character of the wine.
The only caution that I would make is to recognize that it is a big wine and will be best if served with big food as it would definitely overpower anything on the delicate side. Yalumba bush vines Grenache, is reasonably priced, and should be available just be asking throughout the United States.
