More With New WSDA Director. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

Bud Hover is the new director of the Washington State Department of Agriculture discusses some of the issues he is hoping to tackle.

HOVER: Well one of the issues - and I just met with folks from the vet school down at WSU, there’s a facility down there that is aging that we need to try to get replaced. It is a facility that does testing for some of these different diseases that we are in risk of losing our certification.

The facility is one of 5 nationwide and has recently been working on the Washington bovine TB case. Unfortunately the state is losing its longtime state vet, Dr. Leonard Eldridge and Hover says he will be missed.

HOVER: He’s loved by everybody in the industry, he’s very well respected throughout the United States and we’re really going to miss having having his expertise there.

And Hover talks in general about his new position.

HOVER: I’m excited about it. The possibilities really are intriguing. I’ve got a great staff. I’ve got people who are just very forward thinking, very hard working. I really want to build this organization or do the best I can to advance this organization and have it kind of a shining star. I want it something the people can be proud of and Governor Inslee to be proud of and that we contribute everything we can to helping industry be one of the economic drivers and gets us really moving.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
