New Ag Director Getting Busy

New Ag Director Getting Busy. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Line On Agriculture.

Last week during a busy day on the Washington State Capital lawn, the new state Department of Ag director Bud Hover spent some time meeting with cattle producers, cowboys and more as part of the WSDA’s Centennial celebration.

HOVER: This is a great time for people to be able to come and see exactly what the Washington State Department of Agriculture does. One hundred years of protecting the food supply, working with industry to ensure the best quality products, safe products. All of those types of things, you know, serving the people of the state of Washington.

The WSDA Centennial was one of three events in support of the ag industry and Hover said there was discussion about making this event a bigger, annual event.

HOVER: The more people understand where their food comes from, what the Department of Agricultures responsibilities is in providing the oversight of that whole process the more support that agriculture will have as we go forward.

Many of the states ag commissions were represented with booths in the rotunda of the Capital building.

HOVER: All of those organizations are key to not just providing us with those products - I mean the economic impact they have and the number of jobs that they create all of that goes to make for a stronger Washington State, a stronger economy for all of us.

On Monday we will continue our chat with the new director of the Washington State Department of Ag, Bud Hover.

That’s today’s Line On Agriculture. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
