A Lot of Bull & Farm Bill Possibility

A Lot of Bull & Farm Bill Possibility

A Lot of Bull & Farm Bill Possibility. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Northwest Report.

C Miles McKee should be proud...if a bull can be proud. The Hereford bull has set a new world record, selling for $600,000 nearly doubling the previous record sale of $301,000. The animal, from Idaho breeder Guy Colyer with Colyer Hereford & Angus, had gathered a lot of interest from high scores for breeding and phenotype and is expected to produce valuable offspring.

The House GOP plans to bring up a stopgap continuing budget resolution as soon as next week to finish out the fiscal year. But uncertainty surrounding the federal budget and across-the-board cuts is confounding farm bill writers. National Farmers Union Chief Roger Johnson and others also met with Top House Ag Democrat Collin Peterson - who recently met with Speaker John Boehner.

JOHNSON: The speaker told him that he wanted to do a farm bill this year that he didn’t want to do another extension. Now, it wasn’t a commitment. It was a conversation. But Colin said at least that’s a hopeful sign, it’s moving in the right direction. We’re still not going to start a farm bill until we have a commitment.

Now tips on saving, Rod Bain reports.
