Beef is Heart-Healthy

Beef is Heart-Healthy

Welcome to Open Range, I’m KayDee Gilkey. Stay tuned because after the break I’ll check in with our field reporter, Greg Martin for the AgriBeef Minute.

I’m Greg Martin with today’s AgriBeef Minute. As February is winding down we wanted to remind you that it’s American Heart Month and Traci Bracco with the Idaho Beef Council reminds us that beef is good for the heart.

BRACCO: According to the American Heart Association cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States and it’s with these grim statistics that it’s more important than ever for consumers to be informed about dietary choices. Idaho’s beef producers - we take a lot of pride in raising wholesome, safe and nutritious beef.

She says there is good news about beef.

BRACCO: Often times when you hear things like heart disease, beef or meat in general is the first diet element to get the heave-ho when it comes to cholesterol management. At the end of last year a study was released that show that including lean beef in a heart-healthy diet is effective in lowering cholesterol levels.

It supports their on-going claim that beef is an important part of a heart-healthy diet.

BRACCO: The important thing is that consumers remember it’s all about making good food choices, there’s no one perfect food out there and beef is a good protein choice for you just as there’s dairy products that you need for your body and other products to help you live vibrantly and age well.

I’m Greg Martin and that’s today’s AgriBeef Minute.

Thanks Greg. Don’t forget Greg will be back each Wednesday with the AgriBeef Minute. Agri Beef Co - Real Families, Great People, Exceptional Beef. I’m KayDee Gilkey.
