Study Urges Vegetarianism for all: Scientists Disagree

The Stockholm International Water Institute warned in a recent study that if the world population doesn’t adopt a vegetarian diet over the next four decades, we may face a global food shortage. Now don’t choke on your cheeseburger, after the break we will visit with Dr. Jude Capper who will explained the flawed data behind the SIWI’s recommendation, I’m KayDee Gilkey with Open Range.?
Washington State University Animal Science Adjunct Professor Dr. Judith Capper says that the study has some faulty premises.

Capper: “The main issue that myself and other scientists have with the report is that it is based on a false premise that the productivity of livestock production, that has improved greatly over the last 30 to 50 years, isn’t going to increase any further over the next 40 or so years. It seems like a fallacy to suggest that in 40 years time that we all going to have to become non-meat eaters or cut our consumption considerably.”

Dr. Capper adds that the study also incorrectly assumes that crops can be grown on the marginal land that which is too steep, rocky or dry, that is being used today to graze livestock.

Capper: “We have very good pasture land which is extremely good for grazing animals on and converting what is essentially indigestible fibrous grasses into high quality animal protein.”

So continue enjoying your cheeseburger, pork or lamb chop.
