Negotiators are quickly running out of time to resolve the looming fiscal cliff and a key farm lobbyist argues that could mean big trouble for agriculture next year. National Farmers Union’s Chandler Goule sees no real alternative to a fiscal cliff GOP-White House deal to save the farm bill.

GOULE: Well if no other legislation is going to pass the House of Representatives then, no. I mean it would require either a 5-year farm bill to get us of course through that which is what National Farmers Union supports or some type of an extension. Otherwise we do revert back to the 1949 law.

Planning on doing some holiday traveling? AAA projects 93.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holidays, an increase of 1.6 percent over the 91.8 million people who traveled last year. AAA estimates the national average price of gasoline will slowly drop through the end of the year. According to the survey of intended travelers, the average distance traveled by Americans during holiday period is expected to be 760 miles, further than last year when travelers planned to log 726 miles.

Now here’s today’s Washington Grange report.
