Proprietary Variety Management

Proprietary Variety Management

Proprietary Variety Management. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Every year we hear about new and exciting varieties of fruit that farmers can bring to the marketplace. Now, a “new product” company called Proprietary Variety Management™, or PVM™, will help farmers with those new varieties according to Alan Taylor, marketing director for PVM™.

TAYLOR: It’s probably best to look at it in terms of the tree fruit nursery business which has been around for decades and has been very, very good for the fruit industry of course in helping to provide new varieties and varieties that have done very well in the marketplace but we have put together a new company called Proprietary Variety Management™ which is looking to take that one step further in that it’s going to be looking for intellectual properties that are available from international contacts.

Taylor says they will also provide more information for growers on choices of varieties. He talks about why they started PVM™.

TAYLOR: We’re one of the unique operations which has the tools already available to do so in that over the last two, three decades cultivated contacts from other horticultural contacts around the world so we already have the avenue to come up with or at least seek out new varieties. Not everybody has that to go to to explore new things that may be different that are not in the supermarket produce department already.

We’ll talk more with Alan Taylor tomorrow at the new company, Proprietary Variety Management™.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
