Hort Convention Next Week

Hort Convention Next Week

Hort Convention Next Week. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

The harvest is virtually done and that means it is time to gather around the campfire and tell a few tall tales and throw back a few pints of fruit juice, preferably fermented. Stephanie Chance, Communications Director for the Washington State Horticultural Association talks about next weeks meeting.

CHANCE: As of this morning we had a really great number. It was a little over 1100. Normally we typically see right around 1400 and I believe we’re going to reach that number easily if not go over this year.

That does not consider the walk up registrations on the days of the show which by the way is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, December 3, 4 and 5th. Chance talks about the theme of this years show.

CHANCE: The main highlight is definitely our theme of succession planning because it’s very vital and just preparing the industry for the next generation and making sure this is something they have in place before say somebody either passes away unfortunately you know have this stuff in place before that ever happens.

Each year the convention and expo alternates between Wenatchee and this year’s event in Yakima. Session are held in English and Spanish and as usual pesticide credits will be available.

CHANCE: So many people within the industry whether it’s just businesses or farmers and it’s great networking. It’s great to talk with other people and hear what they’ve done, hear different practices.
