National Grape Policy Conference

National Grape Policy Conference

National Grape Policy Conference. I’m Greg Martin with today’s Fruit Grower Report.

Now that the 2012 grape harvest is just about in the record books it’s time for a little work on getting more out of your grape crop. Vicky Scharlau is the executive director of the Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers.

SCHARLAU: The Washington Association of Wine Grape Growers is actually working in conjunction with the California Association of Wine Grape Growers to pull off the 2013 National Grape Policy Conference. The title of it will be “Public Policy Impacting Your Bottom Line.’ The focus of this grape policy conference will be research, labor, clean plants and the Farm Bill.

The conference is being held in Washington DC March 17th through the 20th.

SCHARLAU: It will begin with bringing speakers discussing the lay of the land, generally where we will be at that point in time and then we will have administrative speakers, cabinet level speakers, the committees on both the House and Senate sides and really getting into the in-depth nature of those issues that impact grape growers.

So who should consider attending?

SCHARLAU: Any organization that represents the interests of wine grape growers in particular but honestly any grape grower and growers who also understand the value of public policy.

That’s today’s Fruit Grower Report. I’m Greg Martin on the Ag Information Network.
