Down Day For Grain Markets

I'm KayDee Gilkey with the Market Line Report for August 24, 2012.?

Early morning gains on Thursday were wiped away after technical selling commenced in the corn market. The US Dollar traded lower on the day but offered no support to the grain complex. From the floor of the CME Group, Greg Wagner shares his observations of Thursday’s markets.

Wagner: “Now in a general observation, people are saying when is the highs essentially going to be in? My assessment is that the highs will be made sooner rather than later. This is something that should be taken note particularly with producers as well as end-users. The idea that has been floating around that we will have these lofty prices for corn lasting until spring, I think that history disputes that dramatically.”

Chicago September Wheat ended Thursday down 22 cents at 8-74 and 1/2. September corn ended the day down 21 and 1/4 cents at 8-08 and 3/4.

Portland prices for soft white wheat and club wheat were down 15 to 16 cents at mostly 8-73. Hard Red Winter Wheat with 11.5 pct protein prices were down 22 cents at mostly 9-33. DNS wheat with 14 pct protein prices ranged down 20 to 21 cents at mostly 9-71.

October live cattle ended Thursday up 45 cents at 124-93. September Feeder cattle were up $1.90 at 143-48. September class III milk was up 14 cents at 19-20.
