Sunfield Farm & School Farm Walk

Tilth Producers of Washington and Washington State University Small Farms Program are hosting their fourth annual Farm Walk Monday at Sunfield Farm & School in Port Hadlock. Amy Besunder, Executive Director of Tilth Producers of Washington, talks about the goals of the Farm Walks.

BESUNDER: Our over arching goal with the farm walks is to provide an opportunity for farmers to have educational opportunities that are hands-on, learn how their fellow farmers are doing a particular type of agriculture, and to share knowledge across the agricultural sector. We also have educators who often participate. We have at times had large numbers of people who are not even in the ag sector but just interested in seeing what a particular farm does.

Monday’s Farm Walk at Sunfield Farm & School will showcase owners Neil and Verity Howe’s biodynamic farm.

BESUNDER: Well, Sunfield Farm produces vegetables and fruits for a 50 member CSA, (Community Supported Agriculture). They use biodynamic practices. They have integrated rotational grazing for cows, sheep, goats, and chickens. It’s an educational farm. The children are actively engaged in the care of the farm and they learn how to respect the land. They work side by side with farmers and interns.
