Lamb Industry’s Participants Wanted For Survey

The American Lamb Board is seeking feedback from its industry’s participants -- growers, feeders and processors in its recently launched a sustainability survey.

After visiting 25 farms and ranches around the nation representing the many aspects of the lamb industry, the American Lamb Board created a survey. American Lamb Board Executive Director Megan Wortman explains.

Wortman: “We initiated this sustainability assessment to get a better understanding of the industry’s operational practices really as they relate to the impact on economic viability of our producers, worker health and safety and community development and other issues. It is not a carbon footprint study, it is a broader sustainability assessment.”

Wortman shares what they hope to gain from the survey information.

Wortman: “The purpose is to develop these wonderful communication messages and stories about our producers to help us promote American lamb and sell more American lamb.”

Wortman says they’ve received a good response so far, but hope to have 700 to 1,000 completed surveys to ensure a strong representation. So if lamb producers or feeders haven’t yet responded, how can they participate?

Wortman: “If they would just email sustainabiilty@americanlambboard.org and ask for a survey, we were immediately send them the web link and/or if they would prefer a hard copy. Deadline is the week of July 9th.”
